Pathology Database (PALGA)

The Dutch National Pathology Registry (PALGA) contains data on all histological, cytological and autopsy examinations in the Netherlands (www.palga.nl). The registration started in 1975 and reached 100% participation in the country in 1990. It also serves several national population-based studies and forms the main information source for the Dutch Cancer Registry. PALGA contains abstracts and summaries of pathology reports and encrypted patient identification. Diagnostic terms are consistent with the SNOMED classification. In 2004 about 40 million abstracts of more than 10 million patients had been stored and each year more than 2 million abstracts are added. Permission of the Scientific Board of PALGA is needed to use these data.
